So late last month I bought a rug for the house on eBay from a dealer in Southlake, close to Fort Worth. Needless to say, I thought it would be a great idea to waive the $29 shipping fee, pick the rug up myself, and get a weekend of Dallas-Fort Worth picking under my belt. Definitely saving money! 😐
So I took my husband’s hatchback Mazda6 and hightailed it to Fort Worth. I decided to go the unbeaten path (junk shops) first. Imagine my surprise when I immediately found a set of 6 Art Deco dining chairs in the style I had been wanting for only $100! Clearly it was going to be a good weekend. Here are the chairs lined up in pretty little rows awaiting refinishing (doing myself with an oil finish , they’re solid mahogany with brass feet, likely French) and new fabric (splurging with the pros):
And here they are crammed in the back of the car two weeks ago:
Despite this insane mess I was also able to fit the 9×12′ rug and lots of other goodies for the shop in the car. Awesome vintage finds, Kolaches from West, and my annual Braum’s made the weekend trip a resounding success. Without further ado, onto the picks!
Misc:
A pair of signed kokeshi and a Jorgen Bloch rope lion.
Textiles
A narrow wool tapestry and three Verner Panton Spectrum Mira X wall hangings.
Ceramics:
Bitossi polkadot pottery set (already gone), another Italian vase that’s likely Bitossi (B mark), and Eva Zeisel After Dinner sugar bowl and creamer in black.
Glass:
Super rare nuutajarvi stacking jars, Riihimaki vase, a set of three Aseda bamboo vases, monumental Holmegaard Havanna vase in blue and Gulvase in white, pink Murano latticino cup, an Art Deco glass goldfish car mascot, and a huge signed Livio Seguso Murano glass swan.
Art:
Taken by the car, a large Art Nouveau floral oil painting. Love the colors, scale, and asymmetry.
Until next time…
STAY. THE. HELL. OUT. OF. HOUSTON. I kid! We’ve even got a spare room for ya. Terrific scores!
Even though I usually know what you have found before you post, I still like to visit your blog and just be amazed by the quantity and quality of your finds! Well done!
Thanks, ladies! Maria, I’m sure I’ll be in Houston real real soon 😉 nearly went on the 8th.
