Very VERY long time, no write. Can’t believe it’s been since December! This entry is entitled “Mash Up” because it will be ridiculously long and full of tons of only loosely related things, like a Girl Talk track >:P (I’m a total 2009 hipster.)
First off, I went to New Zealand in January to see my hubby fresh off the ice from Antarctica and spend some quality time with the in-laws on their dairy farm on the north island. It’s so beautiful there! Other than the fact that it rains a lot and the vintage picking SUCKS, I still totally want to live there.
Here’s a brief photo album from the trip:
One great surprise was a GORGEOUS antique shop converted from an old bank building, I think in Stratford. Though I didn’t find any steals for the shop, it was still a truly enjoyable and inspiring vintage shopping experience. Here are some pics:
After New Zealand I nearly immediately took three days off to have my top wisdom teeth out. It was TECHNICALLY medically necessary but mostly just to get another three days off without using vacation. Yes, sneaky and asshole-y but totally worth the pain and cost. (I really REALLY wish I could really speak my mind about my government job on here!) Before and after pics insisted upon by my husband:
Then in March I flew my mom in from Scotland, where she lives with her husband, for a two week whirlwind statewide shopping and food extravaganza.
We also did some obscene culinary damage in Austin:
We headed to Abilene, in west Texas, where we’re from, and the bluebonnets were truly impressive thanks to some much needed rain.
No trip to west Texas is complete without a trip to Allen’s fried chicken in Sweetwater, all you can eat family style southern food goodness!!!! Here’s a picture of the after lunch carnage.
The estate sales and garage sales in Abilene are fabulous and I managed to score some excellent finds including this collection of vintage cotton Chloe scarves in PRISTINE condition!! *GASP!*
And finally, to round off the blog entry, I managed to nab tickets to both Spoon and The Black Keys / Arctic Monkeys shows in April (2 of my favorites TOGETHER!!). The only seats left for Black Keys were in the nose bleed section but still totally worth it.
Next blog entry, coming soon, will be 4 months of painful pass finds. It will hurt so good!
